“Starlight” Game Audio – Concept Tracks

Starlight - Game Audio Concepts

Round One Concept Presentation

Four primary approaches have evolved for first-round consideration. Artwork is unofficial.

A. Starlight / Elevate Hybrid (“Elevate – Starlight Mix”)

v1.3

This is a bit of a hybrid concept track using some of the parts from Elevate. I also composed this one with a different buildup, including piano motifs which developed from some exploration in concept development. I quite like how it gives the song a bit of a theme, even with a traditional instrument, while also introducing and being supported by electronic elements. Heavily layered.  Another theme shows up later in the track with some brassier synths with majestic overtones. Appropriate considering the scope of the environments in the game. The piano theme comes back and gets developed a bit differently to wrap up the song’s outro.

v1.2

The later versions are more recent, but I’ve included a previous version so you can hear how it evolved. The earlier version is a bit different, even including different vocal overlays in the intro, which are kind of cool. I took them out in the later version however…but curious what you think.  Also a bit of a different secondary, brass theme. (I added some synths on top of the later version in 1.3) I thought it might be worth including just to show you how it sounds.

B. Starlight / Exposition 1

This song started as an isolated exposition or study of the intro piano theme from the above track concept.  I was able to play the notes manually versus altering sample pitches as on the above track. This allowed a bit finer control over the notes and piano sound.  This one also brings in a few newer sounds that may not be part of Elevate as a base track. Less influenced by parts involved in Elevate. More new material.

C. Starlight / Deluge (Electronic)

Mostly electronic, written as a song progression. This is a bit more pure in concept to an electronic track, versus something more ambient or cinematic, soundtrack-y. Still I’ve used some syncopated noise patterns, 32nd note arpeggios and several varied sections with different densities and soundscape variations.

D. Starlight / D2

Mostly Electronic, another exploration. Deluge composition.
